For over 30 years the Canberra Gay and Lesbian Tennis Club has been making cash grants to Canberra-based LGBTIQ community groups.

1986 – David Murphy on behalf of Gayline receives a cheque from Mike Howard

Any profit made from the annual Bushdance is first used to support Monday night tennis. Fees paid by players each Monday night are subsidised, and BBQs and pizza evenings are provided to players at no cost. The Club Committee has also made grants of funds to the Turner Tennis Club for the upkeep of the courts, clubhouse and carpark.

The Committee may chose to make surplus funds available as community grants. Usually at the end of January, community groups and individuals are invited to submit applications. These must be for projects which benefit the LGBTIQ community and not a single individual. Applications are open for four weeks and the committee will assess applications and make its decisions shortly afterwards.

Over the years funds have been given to a wide variety of local groups. The funds available in any given year will depend on the profit made from the annual Bushdance the previous November and the Club’s financial position.

Grants are currently limited to a maximum of $2,000 per project, though the Committee may on rare occasions approve larger amounts.
